About Artist Jonathan Green
Jonathan Green grew up with roots in the South. His family was part of the Gullah culture of South Carolina’s Lowcountry. A few years after graduating from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, Jonathan Green moved his studio south to Naples, Florida. In July 2009 Jonathan Green shifted his easel to a new home on Daniel Island, South Carolina, in order to be closer to his Lowcountry roots. Jonathan Green has received many honors and awards for his contributions in recording his cultural heritage through his art and his support of cultural and educational institutions throughout the South. One honor that touched him deeply was receiving the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner Governor’s Award for Lifetime Achievement in the arts awarded to him in 2010. That is the highest arts award given by the State of South Carolina.
